Mom and I went out to the cometary to put flowers on the graves. It was a good time to pause and reflect and be thankful that I'm doing this with my mom and not putting flowers on her grave.
We played bunco on Monday night. We had skipped last month's get together, not only because of the flood, but the gal who was hosting bunco had to have brain surgery. Really. (I'm glad to report that she's doing fine.)
This month we met at Carol's house. It was good to see everyone again. With the flood going on, everyone has stayed home so much. Because you have to take alternate routes to where ever you are going it takes forever to get to where you are going. (Get that?) It's easier to stay home.
Tradidtion. The rhubarb is up and needs cutting. I made us a rhubarb pie. Yum! This time I tried a lattice top. I was surprised that it was so easy to make. Now where's the ice cream?
This winter occasionally I've gone out to dinner with my daughter, Jamie. She has a high power job now and she dresses for the part. She always looks so nice.
I know I sound like a proud mom, but Jamie has turned into such a wonderful person I am so proud of her! I remember all the troubles we went through when she was a teenager. If we had only known how well she would turn out, it would have been a lot easier.
I had to snap this picture of her in the restaurant.
Our book club finally got together. Some of the members have been affected by the recent flood and didn't want to try to get through the water to return to their homes after dark, so we kept postponing and postponing our meeting. The result: We had to review three different books to catch up. It was an enjoyable evening. We got together at Atomic Coffee.
The flood waters are starting to recede!! Last week they were rising and then holding steady for a few days. Today on our way home from church, I can now see some land where there was water. That is good news. There is still so much water that it will still be hanging around 'til the end of the month..... but the worst is over! I heard a guy on the radio say that the fields will not be in normal condition unless we have a drought until August. (Like that's gonna happen)
My five year old granddaughter, Sierra, spent Friday night with us. On Saturday, I took her to town with me on the school bus while I was transporting the track team. She had a great time. She asked, "Grandma, is this your job? Do you get to do this every day? Can I come with you everyday?"
While watching the students race, Sierra concluded that she could out run anyone of them. She proceeded to show me by running along the fence line that we were parked by. My mom stopped by and took Sierra and I to a big rummage sale. Sierra is a born shopper. Here's a picture of my mom, Sierra and Sierra's new puppy purchase.
For lunch I had packed some hard boiled eggs. I don't think that Sierra has ever had them before. She was fascinated with peeling one and then salting it. The look on her face when she took her first (and only) bite was priceless. It said: "yuck, how do I get this out of my mouth?! No way am I going to swallow it!" Before her parents came to pick her up, Sierra decorated the bus. She drew a picture for each of the kids on the track team. She put one picture on each seat:
I took Friday off from work and spent the day with my mom. Mom had some tests done at the hospital to find out where she was bleeding internally. Prayers were answered and even though her condition is serious...it's not fatal. She has a bleeding ulcer.
In the waiting room, I ran into three of Dave's cousins that we haven't seen for a while. Their mom was also in the hospital. It was good to see them. I took a picture of them. Meet Steve, Sue and Bill:
